SzaZa seduced Dada
Dada seduced SzaZa

Seduced by one another, they decided to drink Caffè Latte before the audience’s eyes; they will be shamelessly sipping at this most bizarre drink, being neither a stimulating coffee, nor healthy milk. The drink somehow undefined or lost in the meantime of afternoon coffee time. While drinking the undefined Caffè Latte, and having nothing better to do, they will be seducing for the second, third, fourth time, time and again. Yet, as the theatre of today seems full of new performance aesthetics, Dada/SzaZa will be doing it in the concept of an experimental aspect of fun, or a funny aspect of an experiment.
SzaZa and Dada will be seducing one another before the eyes of those who decide to take part in the event - neither a performance encrusted with music, nor a concert made more appealing with dance poses. Caffè Latte does not want to be seen as a finished work; Caffè Latte wants to seduce despite all the consequences, sooner or later, affecting … the seducers.

Caffè Latte – a cooperation between artists from Dada Theatre and SzaZa, a music duo from Warsaw. Caffè Latte is an energy exchange between music and dance that can go so well together; yet, Caffè Latte artists, knowing that this natural merger of music and dance can be fraught with aesthetic smugness, choose an open structure, some unexpectedness and free creation.

reviews:

Short pieces of a dynamic dance performed by Dada dancers – a physical and tribal dance of Bzdyl, and a classical-ballet-inspired-dance of Chmielewska – blend with stunning music by a bass clarinet (Szamburski) and a fiddle (Zakrocki). An attempt to communicate with dance and music seems to dominate the solo performances though. (…)
The coffee with Dada SzaZa is an experience worth recommending not only to the artists’ fans. Another step of creative research by Dada is both: a daring attempt to make a performance combing dance, music and the performing arts, and also, it’s excellent and energetic fun “half jokingly, half serious”. Everyone can find something here.
Łukasz Rudziński, Trójmiasto.pl, 2 Dec 2009

In the story, being told by Bzdyl, of meeting people, literature, music, love and … death, there was no leader. SzaZa was going crazy on their instruments, letting out all sorts of sounds, while Katarzyna Chmielewska did deserve a standing ovation not only for the quality of her improvisation, but for the sensu stricto ballet étude.
Sandra Wilk, Życie Warszawy, 14 Dec 2009

Similarly to the other performances by Dada, under the laws of ridiculing quotations, pastiche and parody, the echoes of numerous techniques and conventions emerge, however, in a peculiar way, through a “dada-wise” play with what’s between the form and the individual. Therefore, the consecutive references have even a greater impact, and “seduce” with what could be called a “plaything”, whereas what’s unknown makes the artists search for it themselves. Movement is growing alongside the music with its free flow in space, thus creating a polyphonic and volatile dance-music composition. Every next „Caffe Latte” will surely be remarkable and unique as well.
Julia Hoczyk, Scena 4 (60) – 2009

A dialogue of dancers and musicians, or rather - mutual fascination and seduction - appear to be the roots of the performance from which a trunk is growing, and branching off, more and more, and all that, in front of the eyes of those being seduced. Dada is talking, and at the same time, talking about the talking, and yet, denying the talking; dancing and denying the dancing. Talking about a confusion of languages when building The Tower of Babel, and at the same time, talking about the blessing of this confusion. (…)  All four can be typified by greed for music, greed for dance, greed for art, for life in general.
Tadeusz Skutnik, Dziennik Bałtycki, 20 Dec 2009

Yet, in "Café Latte” it’s not the analytical concept that counts most. The artists’ intention was something much more elusive: seeking pure pleasure in co-presence, being on stage together and with the audience, in one space, to enjoy one another, to enjoy our bodies, reactions, statements and sounds.
