Imagine there is a land in Central Europe…

Climate there is unpredictable and volatile. Sometimes freezing cold, and sometimes boiling hot. In this land, everybody lives as if waiting for something else to happen than what’s happening at the moment. In this land, one wishes to keep one’s cool, but it is either too hot or too cold. One is soaked with rain or the sun melts the brain. No wonder one from Central Europe dreams one’s life up anew, over and over again.

Now, imagine that in this land, in Central Europe, not to know why, a Magnolia grows here and there. May comes in, and all of the sudden, Magnolia’s twigs blossom in impressive and sweet-smelling flowers. Whenever it happens, to one from the land in Central Europe, the view of the flowers is always a true surprise. This Central-European is walking down the street, and absorbing the heat of a spring day when one finds a real miracle! Magnificent flowers on leafless twigs. Delight! The soul gently softens and spirit livens up. One is willing to love, to stay in endless love and cherish it forever… No need to mention how beautiful life seems then. Everything seems somehow balanced, complete. One wishes one could live only here and now, in the land where Magnolias blossom.

Say, in two days the enthusiasm’s gone, so one goes back to where the miracle had come about but... In the land of Central Europe, not to know why, the temperature fell below zero the night before; with cherished hope, and wishful thinking, one goes where the miracle had come about, but finds only leafless twigs and some wilted plants, wilted and withered.

It is a truly sad story.

press reviews:

The dancers enact the story of partnership, passion, but also, or first of all – rivalry; both gifted with very strong personalities, they fight a duel, yet serving a twin purpose. Over time they unveil bottled up emotions; time after time, they go hand in hand or split apart, pretend for each other, or hide behind a pose, assist in dancing, yet, trying to keep individualism and independence, until the climax, when they both stand at the wall, naked, so as to give each other a deep bow soon, clad in the same white bathrobes; as if two opponents who end in a tie and accept each other’s equality, they thank each other for the fair play (meaning - ten years in company).

Joanna Leśnierowska, Didaskalia

Two people living side by side. The climate of their lives is rather temperate, rainy and cool. It is no wonder that the two characters change their clothes again and again. In their lives they change costumes like roles. The two dressing rooms form a stage set. Two lives, two solitudes; and then, suddenly, in the middle of winter, they meet halfway through. A couple, wrapped up in scarves, and wearing woollen hats, is dancing tango. Their dance combines ice-cold precision with fervent passion, woollen hats with evening outfits. A wide amplitude of temperatures and emotions heightened by Mikołaj Trzaska's music, intertwining South African rhythms with jazz themes. Leszek Bzdyl and Kasia Chmielewska cut space like a razor with their dance.
